The Keys 15 & Under placed 4th in the MAYB Nationals held in Wichita, Kansas 9th/10th Grade Division. Overall the Keys were 6-2 in this 53 team division. The Keys won 6th straight games before losing to the Killeen Texas K-Town Kings 56-58 in the Semi-Final Game. The Keys also lost the consolation game to the Oklahoma Bullets 45-51.
In the Final 4 Game, Tre Bales starts the game with a patented three (3) from the corner. The game was up and down with a Martez steal and bucket which put us up 18-17 with 11:50 remaining in the half. The pace slowed down with both teams hitting free throws followed by a big rebound by Trent Richardson and kickout to Trey Bales for a close out three pushing our lead to 35-28 over the K-Town Kings.
In the second half the game continued to be a see-saw battle, however, both teams mimicked each other with poor help side defense which lead to exchanges of fouls and easy buckets. Jahrod Barrett hit a key bucket on a turnaround inbound play followed by another Trey Bales three which help us maintain the lead at 52-47 with 9:45 to go. At this point both teams defense stepped up and the Keys hit a snag while scoring only four points to lead 56-55 with a minute and 2 seconds left in the game (1:02). Antonio Winn was fouled and missed the front end of a one and one. The K-Town Kings then came down and scored a 3 to give them a lead 56-58. On the next Keys possession Trent Richardson was fouled and missed the front end of a one and one. We then intentionally foul them with 10 seconds to go. They miss and La Ray rebounds and we push a pass to Tre Bales who slightly fumbles it, up pumps the defender, decides to put it on the floor, dribbling past the defender going left to right and pulls up for a 15 foot runner that back irons and bounces to a K-Town Kings player as time runs out. (Man we missed the poetic beginning and ending … but Trey Bales is definitely the kid we would give the last minute shot to anytime!) Trey had a great tournament and in one game stretch hit eight (8) consecutive shots. Don’t forget that Trey is an 8th grader and he and JC Johnson played up two age groups in this 9th/10 Grade Division.

In the Quarter-final game the Keys beat the St. Louis Majestics in overtime winning 54-50. Antonio Winn redeemed himself in the overtime period by knocking down two free throws to go along with two steals in the final minute of overtime to help secure the win. Previously, with the score 49-46 and less than seconds to play, Antonio, missed two free throws that would have secured the win in regulation. The Majestics Jermaine Richmond then hit a desperation 3 to send the game into overtime.
