Kansas City Keys
Kansas City Keys 16s

The best team in the Keys program having won:
a. Missouri Valley Regional
b. Missouri Valley Super Regional
c. Arkansas Super Regional
d. Omaha Crusaders Invitational - combined record of 35-2
The Keys Girls are the #3 team in the country!!!!
There were a total of 99 teams for the Girls 16 & Under team held in Orlando, Florida. Overall we were 10-1, and averaged 72 ppg, 39 rpgs, 21.5 assists pg, 15.3 steals pg, 5 blocks pg, and only 12 turnovers pg.
Overall we were 62-3 for the season. We won tournaments in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Nebraska, and Missouri. We beat the 17s Crusaders in Nebraska, the winners of the Atlanta Adidas Tournament. We lost in pool play twice only to redeem the opposition by 20 or more points in championship games. In both losses we had 2 players foul out and we only had 6-7 players total for those tournaments.
We beat the #1 ranked team in the country, Boo Williams (Arguably the Biggest Program in AAU and NIKE). The Boo Williams team won the NIKE Portland Tournament and Chicago Tournament beating last year's AAU National Champs Tennessee Flight 3 times and the eventual National Champs Georgia Metro twice this season. We lose to the National Champs Georgia Metro at the AAU Nationals in the only loss for us in the Final 4 game. At home we beat the KC Select 3-4 times and they were the 4th place finishers at the 17s AAU National Tournament.
Danielle Adams (Lee's Summit) probably the Keys MVP lead us with 19.3 ppg, rebounding at 10 pg, 2 steals pg, and 2 blocks pg. Team Captains, Danielle and Latoya Johnson (Lincoln College Prep) have been with the Keys since they were 5-6 years old. She had a 33 point game performance against a tough Louisiana Storm team and had 21 points and 20 rebounds against the Maryland Ballskills team.
All-American Tanisha Smith (Lincoln College Prep), the most highly sought Key player in the nation (Arkansas, Missouri, Old Dominion, Oklahoma State, Iowa State, Oklahoma University, Miami University, Rutgers University, Kansas, LSU and others) averaged 18 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 3.5 steals pg, and 2 assists pg for the tournament. She had a 31 point game against the Cincinnati Nets.
The heart and soul of the team, however, are The Smurfs. A combination of 4 hard nosed basketball intellect players that average 5'-2" to 5'4" in height. When we needed leadership, solid ball handling, lock-down defense, selective scoring, accurate passing and relentless hustle these vertically challenged players step up to the task time and time again to provide whatever was needed. The Smurfs were made up of Latoya Johnson (Lincoln Prep), Marisah Henderson (KC Kansas Sumner High School) meanest and most proficient smurf of them all, Jasmine Taylor (Raytown South) alias pick pocket artist, and Hannah Carter (Springfield Kickapoo). The Keys Smurfs defined as a diminutive replica of basketball players combined for 17.2 ppg, 8.7 rpgs, 10.2 apg and 5 steals per game. Whatever was required was the theme of this group and big plays they made, including Hannah Carter's big rebound against the Arkansas Hoops in order to set up fellow Smurf, Latoya Johnson, who's timely free throws put nails in the coffin against the Arkansas Hoops and Boo Williams. Both came with less than 10 seconds to go to help secure the win. Latoya's close out defense and block denied Boo Williams guard a chance to tie the game in the Keys 81-78 victory which got them in the Final 4. Latoya also hit a buzzer beater from half court which gave us the edge at halftime in the Boo Williams game 43-40.
Additionally, solid performance was received from All-American, Lacee Groves (Springfield Hillcrest) who scored 15 points in the quarterfinal win over Boo Williams. Tiera Ford, Shalisa and Trolisa Williams (Bishop Miege) provided solid defense, adequate scoring and the twins were the core of our team spirit. Tiera Ford had a 26 point performance in the consolation game against the Orlando Comets which lead to a 74-63 win. Rounding out the group with solid play were Jackie Scoggins (Hickmon Mills) and Ashley Williams (Springfield Hillcrest) whose off the bench scoring and defense were huge in several wins.
